Performance of the Week 12-19 January

Paul Stirling

95(47)

Ireland vs West Indies

St George's

Who has the second highest strike rate in IT20 cricket ever? Well, the answer is Paul Stirling. The stocky Irish right hander, Stirling has made a name for himself with flashing cameos and truly expansive gameplay. This knock against the reigning T20 world champion was a great example of that, and a perfect example of an impeccable T20 innings. His partnership with Kevin O'Brien saw the Irish piled on 93 in the first 6 overs, a T20 international record, as Stirling smashed Ireland's second fastest T20 fifty, and now has the 2 fastest fifties for Ireland in the format. He stroked 6 fours and 8 whopping sixes, including 24 in an over off young spinner Khary Pierre. His knock was filled with slog sweeps, which saw 26 of his runs scored through mid on to midwicket.

Ireland have slim chances of anything near success in the WT20 in 10 months time, down under, but if they have any hope whatsoever; Stirling will be the man to lead them to it.
